Our purpose is 'Protecting the public and reducing re-offending by delivering the sentence of the courts and reforming offenders'.Kent Probation has around 475 staff working in 10 probation offices, 2 Crown Courts, 10 Magistrates Courts, an approved premises as well as staff on secondment to prisons, the Youth Offending Service and other agencies.At any one time, Kent Probation is working with around 6,500 offenders. In any given week, around 1,000 offenders (the equivalent of an average-sized prison population) carry out nearly 6,000 hours of unpaid and supervised work for the community across Kent.Kent Probation works to manage the highest risk offenders as part of the Multi- Agency Public Protection Authority.
Probation Trusts were created by the Offender Management act 2007 and replace Probation Boards. Each Trust provides probation services across one or more counties. Contracted to deliver outcomes and subject to competition, Probation Trusts have the potential to deliver better results and more value for money. They are charged with being innovative and enterprising in pursuit of their objectives. Kent Probation was one of the first Probation Areas selected to become a Probation Trust in April 2010.As a Probation Trust, Kent Probation visions are;The be an excellent and efficient organisation which protects the public and achieves positive change for offenders and communities by reducing re-offending.To develop our business pro-actively, in partnership with our stakeholders and driven by offender need, best value, and the priorities of local communities to become the provider of choice.To be a cohesive organisation which values, supports and develops its staff so that together we can realise our collective potential and be empowered to achieve the highest standards.
