WHAT WE DO - The Probation Process

Custody

Probation staff prepare reports to assist the court in proposing a suitable sentence. The report is the framework for future intervention as it assesses risk and outlines interventions that could take place to reduce re-offending.

At the start of the sentence an initial supervision plan is completed which drives the community order. Victim Liaison Officers work to offer support.

The Offender Manager will manage the sentence of the Court and any risks posed by the offender, ensuring the sentence is delivered and if necessary enforced.

Any interventions set out by the court will be delivered to the offender both by probation and other agencies. Wider support is offered to further help reduce re-offending.

Community orders come in 12 different types that can be combined in a variety of ways. Probation staff work in prisons to review risk and support intervention delivery.
